Abstract
Yucca elata, also known as the Yucca plant, is a common plant found in the deserts of the southwest United States and Mexico. This plant is characterized by its cactus-like leaves and flower that protrudes from the top of the plant. The life cycle is five to seven years after flowering. But the root is long-lived, roots have been aged older than a hundred years. The yucca is pollinated by the yucca moth only. The yucca has deep roots to survive in dry desert climates. The yucca grows anywhere from five to eighteen feet in height. Yucca seeds are collected by the female yucca moth and dropped on the ground to grow another yucca plant. The flower that the yucca plant produces can be white or green in color. After the plant dies, a new plant will grow in its place, from root offshoots. Native Americans have used the yucca plants leaves to weave baskets for hundreds of years. Yucca elata is an exotic plant commonly found in the southwest United States and Mexico deserts and has cultural significance to Native Americans.
