WEEK 1: Choose a question on Arguments and Fallacies.

Instructions

After watching the videos, reviewing the Modules, and reading the required assignments, choose one of the options. Respond to a classmate for maximum points. Designate the option.  Choose one quote from one of the videos and another quote from the required reading. Use bold type on the two quotes you choose. Include the name of the video (name of the video) and the name of the text or author of the required text and include a page number, e.g., (Moore, 34)

Option 1

In paragraph one discuss at least three points that were interesting in the video "What is an argument?" and include how a philosophical argument  is different from the common ways "argument" is used in informal contexts. 

In a second paragraph construct an argument on a topic that is interesting to you such as why gun control, immigration, women's rights or any topic that is interesting to you.  Construct premises that lead to a conclusion.

Option 2

 In paragraph one define 3 logical fallacies discussed in Chapter 1 and the video "Logical Fallacies" and discuss what is interesting to you about these. (You may choose fallacies mentioned in the video that are not covered in the chapter):Switching the burden of proof       Begging the question Argumentum ad hominem    Straw man  False Dilemma  Appeal to emotion    Red Herring
