Topic 5 DQ 3

Provide a sample in-text citation that you plan to use in your evaluation essay you are currently writing. Use one of the head/body/tail combinations from our textbook (chapter 2). Then create a second citation for the same source, but use a different head/body/tail combination. As the week progresses, comment on your classmates' in-text citations. Do you think they were cited correctly? Why or why not? How do different patterns create different impressions about the source?

For the purpose of this DQ exercise, it is necessary to use direct quotations and their internal citations. In that way, you can have all three parts--the signal phrase (also known as the head), the body (the directly quoted part), and the tail (the part at the end that identifies the remainder of the internal citation, usually a p. or para. number). If you did not use direct quotations in your essay, then you must make up a couple for replying to this DQ. Here are a couple of examples:

According to a noted source, "ADHD is a neurological problem, usually identified in childhood but does continue into adulthood. Some have learned to cope with it by adulthood without medications" (CDC, 2018, para. 4).

According to the CDC (2018), "ADHD is a neurological problem, usually identified in childhood but does continue into adulthood. Some have learned to cope with it by adulthood without medications" (para. 4).

As Smith (2018) noted, "ADHD should first be treated with behavioral therapy, before medications are prescribed" (p. 287).

According to research, "ADHD should first be treated with behavioral therapy, before medications are prescribed" (Smith, 2018, p. 287).

In all the internal citations, pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to proper punctuation.
