Watch the movie “The 13th” which explores the combination of “race, justice, and mass incarceration” in the US.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1yJsaFwqDM

While watching,  you were asked to take notes so that you could respond to this discussion board. (there also is a "quiz" as well.

Please respond to all THREE questions in your post.  You should have at least one paragraph for each.  Be sure to support your view with details from your own life and from the movie itself.

  1. The 13th argues that people's lives are shaped to a great degree by the past. In other words, some people have little control over their own destinies because of certain things that have happened in/throughout history. Do you agree with this, or do you feel like each person's fate is in his or her own hands?
  2. How do you feel after seeing the 13th? Did you feel helpless, inspired, stirred to action, or a combination of all three? Do you think the message of the film was ultimately hopeful? Why or why not?
  3. The topic of The 13th  has to deal with a major political and social problem in the U.S.  Is there a topic/problem that you can think of (either in the U.S. or any other country) that has also become an issue which divides people?  Explain what it is.
