# SOUNDS tob21

.Assume the speed of sound is 343 m/s. You are sitting 150 m away from home plate at a baseball game. How much time in seconds elapses between the batter hitting a home run and the moment you actually hear the batter hitting the ball?

.You see a lightning strike and 3 seconds later you hear thunder. How far away is the lightning strike? Assume the speed of sound is 343 m/s.

.A bat emits a sonar sound which hits a moth and reflects back to the bat in 0.1 sec. How far away is the moth from the Bat? Assume speed of sound is 343 m/s.

.The lower limit of human hearing is 20 Hz. What is the wavelength? Assume speed of sound is 343 m/s.

.You already calculated in your Practice equations the high end of human hearing wavelength. Compare this wavelength to the wavelength you calculated in Question 19. What can you conclude about the relationship between frequency and wavelength? Hint: look at the frequency of both, then look at the wavelength of both. What do you notice?
