Respond to two classmates as how to improve one of the questions proposed to the discussion thread.

1.

I have decided to choose the topic of genetically modified food. (Specifically genetically modified fruit). As it is becoming a much more popular topic, I figured that it would be interesting to use in this discussion. I understand that there are probably a lot of people who have strong opinions or even some people that don't care much about whether or not scientists are modifying the genetic make-up of fruit and vegetables. Depending on personal beliefs or even political or ethical views, everyone can generate their own opinion on it.

As in the assignment description, my first question is attempting to make the viewers strongly agree. The second question was designed to lead the audience to oppose the proposition. The last question was created to seem more neutral. I kept the last question fairly brief since a lot of the population probably doesn't quite know a lot of the ins' and outs' of the process and effects of GMO's. Therefore, it would probably just be a simple "yes I think it sounds cool" or a "no, that sounds dangerous" response from people in polls. But if anyone has suggestions for how I could reword it, I would definitely accept the assistance.

1. Because of the ability to genetically modify fruit that is healthier than it normally is, do you agree that scientists should be allowed to continue genetically modifying fruit?

2. Because genetically modifying fruit could result in dangerous mutations and unknown health effects in the long run, do you think that scientists should continue doing it?

3. For better or worse, do you believe that scientists should genetically modify fruit?

2.

There is so many important issues happening in the world today. There are issues with homelessness, illegal immigrants, and more. It is hard to chose just one to talk about, but I chose gun control. There have been so many issues with people wanting to ban guns and the people that want to keep he guns in order to protect their families. There have been too many mass shootings for people not to get outraged and feel unsafe. There are too many bad people that have easy access to a gun when they should not even be near them.  My opinion is the gun control laws need to be stricter. More laws for gun control might help the numbers of mass shootings decrease. I do not think that guns should be taken away from everyone, but it needs to have stricter laws. People do have the right to have a gun to protect or to hunt for their families.

My three questions are

  1. What does the 2nd amendment say?
  2. How often are people killed by their own gun?
  3. Would the crime rate in the U.S. be lower if there were fewer guns available?
