Post to respond to====>This is an important topic especially for the way society is today, it’s like every day we realize more and more how messed up the justice system is. As the years fly by and we go through different presidents and political officials, we would expect some sort of change for the better. I think the word “Just” itself means fair, and according to the Marriam-Webster dictionary “Justice” means “The maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments.” or “The quality of being just, impartial, or fair.”. Justice itself should be equal to everyone but we know that social justice comes into play a lot when it comes time to be judged.

When in a court room “race, gender, appearance, and even the time of day play an important role in outcomes than the actual law.” (2015, Swanson). Aside from race, which we all know plays a big role in injustice, there needs to be change in how many years need to be served for certain crimes. For example, In the case of Amber Guyger killing the unarmed man Botham Jean in his own home, she was only sentenced 10 years in prison… There are people currently in jail for marijuana possession some even with the intent to sell but are serving 20+ years also while there are businesses making millions from selling marijuana. There’s no way someone can say that’s ok. This is one reason why there needs to be prison reform, when rules are broken people aren’t judged equally and it happens every day. Unfortunately, when standing in a courtroom our future is determined by a judge and we have no idea what emotions the judge is going through at the time or how they personally feel about you or the case. We would like to think that they put that aside before every case, but we know this isn’t a perfect world. The justice system can be improved by setting set times for every law that is broken, they all should keep it’s degrees but each one should have a set amount of time to be served, there shouldn’t be exceptions for someone because of there race, wealth, or popularity.
