 3) Using the data provided from the preliminary survey, what is the average, standard deviation and standard error of the mean for the data set "class values for the 6 minute value" ? 

 4) What did you notice about the standard deviation of the number of dots in the box as more time was allocated for the estimation/calculation? 

 5) Using the data provided from the preliminary survey, what is the average, standard deviation and standard error of the mean for the data set "class values for the length of trail estimate in “centimeters ? 

 6) Convert your estimated trail length (which was in centimeters determined by the diagram on the page) into a km measurement for the real trail. Calculate uncertainty on this this total. (Hint: you need to use error propagation, given that you are dividing two quantities both of which have uncertainties.  Some conversions don’t require this—for example, there are exactly 100 centimeters in 1 meter—but when your conversion factor has uncertainty, you must account for it.) 

 7) The previous technique is a good one when you only have one measurement. But since everyone in the class measured this, you can also use the standard deviation approach. (Remember, this approach requires having many independent measurements of the same value.) Use the values you calculated in question 5) to determine the average length of the trail and the standard error of the mean in km.  Don't forget to use error propagation for the conversion.

8) Explain in your own words (or type out the equation) how to calculate the average, standard deviation and standard error of the mean for the values of uranium density.  After explaining how to do those calculations, state the value of the average, standard deviation and standard error of the mean for the values of uranium density.

9) Using information from problem 8) explain how you would calculate the difference significance (see Statistics Handout) between the accepted value and the average value from the data table.  After explaining how to do this calculation, state the difference significance (DS) value and determine how strong the agreement is based on the four categories for DS values.
