Outline/Works Cited - due in 36 hours

I HAVE ATTACHED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE FINAL RESEARCH PAPER SO YOU CAN KNOW HOW TO COMPLETE THE OUTLINE AND WORKS CITED AND OTHER USEFUL RESOURCES. PLEASE REVIEW THE INSTRUCTOR IS TOUGH.

Please attach your Works Cited page and your outline for the research paper to this assignment.  (This works best if you can put them both in a single document and attach it rather than attaching two separate documents.)

Reminders:

  • You will need THREE outside sources on your Works Cited page and ONE citation for the novel itself, totaling at least FOUR items.
  • Because this paper is longer than the other two, your outline should also be longer.  I would expect you to have outlined multiple body paragraphs for each point in your thesis.
  • Include quotations in your outline just like you have for your previous papers.  You should now be including a combination of quotations from the novel itself as well as quotations from your outside resources. This is a big part of your grade!
  • Your thesis should reflect a firm stance/interpretation of the text in question.  The simplest way to write a thesis is to state a theme and then give three central examples.  For example, "The theme of Fight Club is ________, which we see reflected in _____, ______, and _______."  Or, if you'd rather have an example from something we've all read, I could say, "The theme of "Happy Endings" is romantic cynicism, which is reflected in Atwood's fragmentation of sections, her sarcastic tone, and the increasing absurdity of the characters' situations."
  • Your outline (and by extension, your paper) should NOT be plot summary.  You are not writing book reports.  You are writing literary analysis.  Look for symbolism, metaphor, underlying messages, themes, social and historical context, etc.  Rehashing the plot will not earn you a passing grade.
  • If you need help, call or email me, but please do not do so the night before the assignment is due.  I want to help you, but you have to allow yourself and me the time to do so.

WEEK 12 TO-DO LIST

· Turn in your complete research paper outline and works cited page.

o Note: This outline should be much longer than the previous outlines you have written because this paper is much longer.  You need a numbered section in your outline for every single paragraph you plan to write in this paper (I'd imagine you'd need at least nine to twelve good body paragraphs for a paper of this length).  Think about breaking each of your thesis points into multi-paragraph sections instead of single paragraphs as you've done previously.

o You will need to include quotations from both your novel and your outside resources.  Please review the Sample Research Body Paragraph from a previous module to see what this will end up looking like when you actually write the paper.

o Please combine the outline and works cited page into a SINGLE document before submitting.
