According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), chronic diseases are responsible for 7 of 10 deaths each year, and treating people with chronic diseases accounts for most of our nation’s health care costs. The 10 most common chronic conditions among persons living in residential care facilities are:

  1. High blood pressure (57% of the residents),
  2. Alzheimer's disease or other dementias (42%),
  3. Heart disease (34%),
  4. Depression (28%),
  5. Arthritis (27%),
  6. Osteoporosis (21%),
  7. Diabetes (17%),
  8. COPD and allied conditions (15%),
  9. Cancer (11%),
  10. And stroke (11%). 

Choose any one of the above chronic diseases and discuss its pathophysiology. Include references to support your post.
