The media also plays a major role in increasing the negative impact of terrorism and increasing fear among individuals as one may not have heard the news if not for the media.

When mass media transmit information on terrorist attacks that have successfully been executed, terrorist objectives are advanced. Mass media amplify levels of public fear, which is also an objective of the terrorists. By broadcasting terrorist missions and objectives, the media impacts community social cohesion.
