Second paper: “Localization challenge Part 2: recommendations for short and long-term performance, 2000-word paper, 25%.

Students will make both short-term and long-term strategy recommendations for localization choices and managing political risk, using the literature on innovation (Teece, Scamper), sustainability and international business (especially country-of-origin effects)

  • Market recommendations: should the company enter new countries, refocus on the home market or seek to diversify geographically to reduce exposure to reduce exposure to certain countries?
  • How can it adjust its global supply chain to mitigate the risk of closing borders, trade wars and anti-foreign backlash (country-of-origin effect); and take opportunity of the rivalry between cities and countries to gain the best terms for market entry or growth]
  • HQ choices: should the company move its headquarter in view of looming issues, such as Brexit, looming trade wars, anti-immigrant and nationalist sentiment; and privacy issues?
