What do you think are the major reasons that more organizations are recruiting a diverse workforce?

I think it is obvious to say that following the law would be the first and foremost reason that companies initially started to recruit a diverse workforce, but this is not the only reason. Another reason is that with the diversity in the world today, especially here in America, there is a greater need for people speaking a variety of languages to serve customers who may not know the native language. One other great reason in that having a diverse workforce will bring new and creative ideas from unique perspectives that may not have been thought up otherwise. These new ideas can create a bigger profit for the company, and more opportunity for growth.

What are some ways that recruiting should be done differently to attract more African Americans? Latinos? Women?

I like the Hilton company’s strategy in this week’s reading when they created a diverse workforce by having a position in their company that deals directly with diversity plans and programs. If a company puts forth effort into having and implementing a plan to hire a diverse workforce then African Americans, Latinos, and women will be hired in an inclusive way. I think Caucasian males should also be included in that question as there are companies that might not attract Caucasian males and may want to change their recruiting to attract them as well.

The wording and placement of job postings are very important in not making it seem like a specific aspect of a person is what the company is looking for, but in any case, the four-fifths rule would rule out any discrimination of any form by using it with regards to race, sex, disability, age and so on.

I don’t think that African Americans, Latinos, or women should have training that is done differently. If the whole concept of everyone is equal is the main goal then there should be training where everyone is trained in the same fashion and thus can produce the same results.

I think, when it comes an organization, diversity is very important and should be without or without a law being enforced.

More organizations are recruiting a diverse workforce is because, one, it is required by law but mainly also because it helps with organizations growth and build great reputation for the company and brings different skills, and talents that may benefit the organization and make the organizations successful. When there are more diverse employees, customers or clients seem to be improved and it gives employees the ability to learn and teach each other about each diverse group and know how to act and response to any conflicts. Also, with diversity in the workforce, it makes employees and clients, or customers feel comfortable knowing there is someone that can relate to them and be able to assist them properly or in the right manner.

When it comes to recruiting in the workforce, I think emphasizing about the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) is not good enough, as this the go to for organizations when it comes to recruiting. There should be more of a break down. Organizations can acknowledge the need of diversity and by partnering with someone in a higher position and discuss need for diversity and come up with plans or strategies. Networking and career fairs can help with recruiting diverse group, instead of just job postings and reading resumes.

I do not think training should be done differently for any of these minority groups. Training should be done for every one that works with an organization because employees can learn about each other and how to treat each other, which will help when it comes to dealing with customers or clients of different races.

I agreed with Harley-Davidson on recruiting more women and minorities, because those two group are less when in the workplace and it helped with the organization reputations and growth.
