What sticks with you most after hearing these stories? What solutions might exist within Texas politics to these problems? What role do you think government can/should play in addressing these issues?  Texas is a low-tax state with a conservative legislature that spends very little. This comes at a cost, particularly to those individuals within the state who need government to spend on social programs.

 1. How does the political culture of Texas lead to the election of a state legislature that focuses on conservative policy outcomes that lead to low spending on social services? Do you think the benefits of having a low-tax state outweigh the consequences of spending little on social programs like health care?

 2. In your view, what policy solutions could/should be implemented to address the issue of 25% of Texas children living in poverty?
