Facets of Identity

Think about the variety of facets that are the focus of some of the concepts under discussion this week. It makes sense to think about what it means to be "white" from a historical perspective and the idea of "white privilege" or "implicit racism." 

Tim Wise, an anti-racism activist, speaks all over the country about the concept of white privilege. As a white man, he is uniquely able to talk about an idea that undoubtedly makes many uncomfortable. Let yourself feel that discomfort, if that's what you feel. Notice it. Try and think about why. The goal is not to resist his message, but to try it on and allow yourself to play with it a little. It doesn't mean you have to agree, but consider it philosophically. Think about it and then let's continue the conversation in the discussion area.
