Ethical Dilemma

You are the manager of an information technology system that contains government regulated data.  Your immediate boss, a senior leader in the company, tells you to manipulate the data in favor of the company.  You know this would violate government regulations.    If you decide to go to your bosses' boss, he will shut you down in a manner that leaves you to believe you may lose your job.

However,:

· You just went through SIX MONTHS of unemployment just before being hired by this company just two months ago You still have creditors calling

· You have a large student loan to pay off,

· You and your spouse just had a premie baby three months ago who needs regular doctor visits,

· You bought a new house last year before being laid off, and almost lost it during the six-month layoff

· Your spouse was laid off a month ago and has yet to find a new position.

The chances anyone would ever find out you manipulated the data is small... What do you do?    Deeper question- are you answering what you think I want to hear, what you feel is right, or what you would do?
