The extra credit paper is a full 1 page (1.5 line spacing, typed) paper with 1‐3 references as footnotes, on an application of the Hall Effect as a sensor (or other device, like a rocket thruster), preferably in an engineering or science/physics/consumer use. The idea is for you to come up with some possible use for a Hall Effect sensor or device (hopefully that you find interesting) and describe it in as much detail as 1 page allows. Assume the paper is a one page abstract (Summary) for a longer paper on your topic. You can also do something on the Quantum Hall effect and a possible use for it if you want to.
Note that there are several different type of Hall effect sensors for sensing a variety of things. I don't want anything copied from the internet or general stuff (fluff) to fill the one page requirement. Read about Hall Sensors and their various uses (you can start with Wikipedia and look at a couple of references). For good ideas, there is nothing like searching US patents. Go to http://www.freepatentsonline.com/ A search of Hall Effect gives 784337 patents! You will get lots of good ideas by looking at a few US patents on the subject. There are some different type Hall Effect sensors on Amazon.com, (although mostly switches or current sensors) which might give you some ideas. Also, there are YouTube videos on the Hall Effect. Just type Hall effect in the YouTube search box and watch a couple of short ones.
