Part 1

The point of view of the narration of the story is that people in position of power should not despise those who are not. For instance, Michael Obi's ambition is fulfilled when, at the age of twenty-six, he is appointed to create a low-level secondary school. Energetic, young and idealistic, Obi hopes to clear the field of educational mission and accelerate his mission of Christianization. He plans to employ modern methods and demand a high level of education, while his wife Nancy - who is eager to become the director's admired wife - plants her "dream gardens" of beautiful hibiscus hedges of allamanda (Achebe, 2016).

Scandalized by his flagrant intrusion, Obi commands the ancestral sacred path fenced with barbed wire, much to the dismay of the community. Two days later, the school hedge, its flowerbeds and one of its buildings are trampled and in ruins - the result of the villagers' attempt to reconcile the ancestors that Obi's fence insulted. After his supervisor has published a report on this incident, Obi is fired (Dollimore, 2013). This perspective has made me read the story while identifying the areas in which the theme is exhibited by the writer.

......: Energetic, young and idealistic, Obi hopes to clear the field of educational mission and accelerate his mission of Christianization.

Dr. .......: Do you feel sympathy for him in this endeavor, ......, or does his lack of empathy for the traditions of the village distance you from the character?  Does he mean well, and should we take this into account?
