Persuasive Essay – Advanced Composition Spring 2018 Professor Cash Instructions: Your final assignment in the sequence for this semester is a persuasive essay. At this point, you will already have a strong foundation in your annotated bibliography, which you are welcome to use as a sort of starting point. For the paper you will need at least five sources, three of which must be peerreviewed.  The main goal is to convince your reader to share your position. You may write a claim of fact, of value, or of policy, but you will want to account for and acknowledge other points-of-view in some way. To that end, this is not simply an informative essay. Even a claim of fact should be disputable. If you were to make a claim about climate change being a result of human activity, then you would need to consider how many people might resist that interpretation of the data. In the end, you need to have a clear thesis, logical organization, an account of varying perspectives, and consistent documentation of your sources. Aim to leave your reader with some food for thought or an appeal to the significance of your findings. Target Count: 2,000 words minimum Value: 25% of final grade Dates: - Sunday, May 6 by 8 PM by e-mail – rough draft - Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 9 – conferences - Thursday, May 10 – full draft for peer review - Final draft due by 8 PM on Sunday, May 13 on Vancko Hall
