Discussion 1 (200 words with 2 credible sources cited in APA)

The purpose of this Discussion Board is to learn more about the juvenile court in your jurisdiction and how cases move through the juvenile justice system. Within federal courts, juvenile cases are heard in the same courts but during the proceedings, the courtroom is cleared and closed to the public. Research the juvenile court system in your jurisdiction (state courts), and address the following questions: (My State Court Jurisdiction is Alabama)

  1. Is your juvenile court in the same location as your state trial court? If      not, why do you think that is?
  2. What  rights are different for juveniles versus adults?
  3. Do you agree that juvenile courts should be closed to the public?
  4. If  you have to change one thing about juvenile courts, what would it be, and why?

Discussion 2 (200 words with 2 credible sources cited in APA)

The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates is known for a technique called the Socratic Method, in which the teacher leads the student through a process of questioning to come to a logically valid conclusion. Born in 469 B.C.E., Socrates is considered one of the founding fathers of Western philosophy, even though he left no writings behind and very little is known about him. Everything that is known of his teachings is found in the works of his students, like Plato. Much of Plato’s writings are dialogues between Socrates and his students.
Using the Socratic Method, answer the following questions:

  • 1. What do you think of Socrates’ conclusion that no person knowingly does evil, and therefore, all evil is ignorance?
  • 2. Do you agree or disagree, and why?
  • 3. If people accepted that all evil is ignorance, what implications would that have on the justice system?
  • 4. How would prison sentencing or the death penalty be affected?

Discussion 3 (200 words with 2 credible sources cited in APA)

You own a small manufacturing firm in California and are considering entering either Australia or Hong Kong. You are unsure which country you should target and unclear about which entry mode is most appropriate. A recent study investigated the differences between ethical perceptions of business managers from Australia and Hong Kong. The researchers determined two factors that impact the perception of ethical problems: (a) culture and (b) the particular mode of market entry (e.g., exporting, contractual, investment in subsidiaries, or joint ventures).

  • 1. What ethical issues do you think might arise in conjunction with the various market entry modes discussed in Chapter 13?
  • 2. How might these issues influence your entry-mode selection?

Remember to cite your sources and defend your position with evidence from credible sources.
