Denise Johnson,

  1. The only similarity I see between the portraits is that they all appear to be a painting of a man in a straw hat. The artist used many different styles, mediums, and approaches to convey different messages.
  2. The left portrait gives a very rustic feel. It has a rugged looked to it, rough, shaggy lines and a serious look on the mans face. The different shades of yellows, oranges, and browns almost give the impression of a setting sun. All of these elements give off an old time prarie farmer mood, finishing a long day of hard field work.

The middle portrait seems more geometrical, more straight lines and shapes. This author seems to draw viewers into deeper thought. He included a lot of elements to make you think, such as; the neck of the man appears to be railroad tracks, which can have many meanings; or, the eyes being out of the socket and on his forehead. He also made sure to include the straw on the hat so that that element was concrete and not left to be deciphered. It has a spacey, intergalactic tone.

The last portrait is very smooth, and lifelike. It has a soft presence and gives a very timid tone. The author uses soft colors, pale skin and clean cut clothing to present a soft look.

  1. The left photo could be a hard working field hand. Very rugged, lumberjack type of man that is good with his hands.

The middle could be an intergalactical farmer, stuck in an alternate universe and very confused.

The last could be the rich son of an old plantation owner. Very well off, clean cut and doesn’t do a lot of work outside in the sun.
