In Elizabeth Kolbert's 2006 book, "Field notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change",the author brings together studies from a diverse cross-section of scientists who first noticed subtle changes in their realm of research.  Her reports range from Alaskan villages that are experiencing thawing of permafrost that has not been seen in centuries, to rapidly shrinking glaciers in Iceland (where there have been glaciers for the past 2,000,000 years), to warming induced migrations (butterflies moving their ranges northward) and complete disappearances (the golden toad, which had nowhere to go from its mountain top habitat).  When polar ice melts, sea levels rise, yet the GISS Climate Impact Group portends that while flooding may occur on some parts of the planet, the continental U.S. may face severe drought.Your challenge for this discussion post is as follows:
