Case study number two:

A 58-year-old former warehouse worker was diagnosed with mesothelioma after being exposed to large quantities of asbestos at his place of employment more than 30 years ago.

At one time, he was required to move crates containing asbestos within different warehouses, which seems to have exposed him—and all his co-workers—to substantial amounts of the lethal substance on a daily basis.

He was unaware that the cargo he was required to move around contained a potentially harmful substance.

When he started suffering from shortness of breath and chest pains, he suspected he may have developed asbestosis. It wasn't long before his doctor diagnosed him with the fatal illness.

The man is concerned he will not be able to meet the medical expenses he is bound to accumulate. He is also concerned of his ability to maintain his home and support his wife. He is unsure of what benefits may be available to him.

Write a 300- to 525-word response for the case study. The goal of each response is to create an action plan to help the client through providing eligible social welfare.

  • Identify the client's needs and programs that would help them get back on their feet.
  • Provide an explanation of how the program helps the client and how you determine program eligibility.
  • In your view of human service workers, what challenges or barriers may the client experience (societal stigmas or bureaucracy challenges)?
  • What obstacles will you face during implementation?
