The privacy of one’s information is the most important and this influence required by laws. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that protects patient health data and plays a large role in how an organization must handle an individual’s health information. This trust that should be automatic that your information is kept private till you ask for it or it can be subpoenaed with a judge’s order but again only seen by officials who are making a public heath decision such as the person with a spreadable disease.

HIPAA’s Privacy Rule applies to “covered entities,” as defined in the law. This includes health plans, healthcare providers and medical or health department services like doctors, hospitals, clinics, and dentists. Health care clearinghouses, billing services along with repricing companies and community health systems (Erwin & Brownson, 2017).
