Most criminal cases in the US are solved through plea bargaining. In 2019, Brandon Wood, a former police officer with the Louisville Metro Police (in Kentucky), was jailed for 70 months (or less than 6 years) upon entering a guilty plea for soliciting sex from a minor. Ordinarily, he could have been sentenced for at least 10 years, and fined a minimum of $250,000. By admitting guilt, however, his sentence was reduced significantly. Nevertheless, some see guilty pleas as doing injustice to the victims.
