  What are the differences between staffing in the private and public sectors?

A difference in the nature of staffing between private and public sectors as mentioned in the text in Staffing Organizations (2019) is that private sector jobs have open announcement of all vacancies and they also have “very large number of applicants due to applications being open to all persons” (Heneman, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2019, p. 84). From experience, I have noticed public jobs be featured on large employment databases. These databases provide in increase in usability by featuring many positions and the ability to re-use an application for multiple positions. This ease of access can result in an increase number of applicants. On the other hand, private sector jobs must recruit qualified candidates by promoting their organization to attract applicants. As the text in Staffing Organization mentions, “organizations with lower profiles may have to actively advertise their employment brand to bring in more applicants” (Heneman, et al., 2019, p. 225).
