Lord of the Flies Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Ralph takes a rest on the mountain, comparing his current situation to his life in England and wondering how this ocean has changed the boys. He dreams of cutting his hair and getting clean. Simon notices his discomfort and says that they will return soon. After a while, they go into the forest where they find signs of a pig. Roger shouts that he saw a pig. They go deeper into the forest to hunt the pig. Soon, they come across it. The pig attacks Roger, but he hits him with a stick and saves himself. The pig gets away and escapes. Robert acts as if he is the pig, and the boys start hitting him until they wear themselves out. After that, they plan to learn a proper dance. A littlun suggests having a drum and a fire. Roger says that they should catch a real pig next time in order to cook it. Ralph suggests going back and lighting the signal fire, but Jack says that they should continue their hunt. It gets dark before they reach the mountain. Ralph thinks they should send someone to notify Piggy about their stay in the jungle that night, but only Simon is willing to volunteer to do that. Jack laughs at Ralph's concern about Piggy. Ralph keeps insisting that they end the hunt and return to the mountain, but Jack does not listen. They reach the mountain. Jack climbs its peak and returns to tell what he saw. Ralph moves forward and sees the parachute expanding as the wind blows. He thinks that he saw a creature looking at the hunters. Everyone thinks it is the beast and runs away.
