Running Head: SPORT SCIENCE CONTRACT

SPORT SCIENCE CONTRACT 3

Respond to question

Why are firetrucks lime-yellow instead of red?  Simple – research has shown that lime-yellow firetrucks are less likely to be involved in accidents.

Research is all around us.  For this forum, find an example of research at home or in your daily life, one from the media (the news media loves to report on research studies) and one from the annals of science/management.

Tell the class why you think each is research.

ALL FORUMS

Initial Response: Initial responses should be no less than 150 words in length not including your reference(s) and supported by at least one reference (aside from the textbook). Initial responses are due no later than 11:55 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Day 3 of each week. This allows time for other students to respond to your initial response. Please be aware that just “cutting and pasting” sections of articles (in lieu of writing an original initial post) is not acceptable and will negatively impact your grade.

Peer Responses: Students are required to respond to at least two (2) other student’s initial postings (and the instructor) with significant comments that have substance. Peer responses are due no later than 11:55 p.m. ET on Sunday, Day 7 of each week. All peer responses must be substantial and significant and should be no less than 75 words in. If possible, one of the responses to another’s work should be from an opposing viewpoint. Your response to your peer's work should be engaging and informative with good substance (just stating “I agree…” is not acceptable). Your responses should contribute in a meaningful way to helping advance our knowledge of the topics the class explores. Your responses to another’s work should be posted as a sub-thread to the student’s original posting of whom you are commenting.

For all Forum activity, students are encouraged to use the APUS Online Library to search for references that help support their argument (in addition to textbook material). All posts should contribute and advance the class knowledge of the course themes. The Forum provides an opportunity for everyone to analyze work from many different perspectives.

Refer to the Graduate Forum Rubric for additional requirements and details.

Respond to this classmate response

As the forum description states, Research is all around us. Research is defined as “as scholarly investigation into a topic in order to discover, revise, or report facts, theories, and applications.” (What is Research?, 2019) In my day to day life, an example of research that I do is looking up exercises that my coach programs for me. Especially for this week, he has programmed a bunch of new movements for me that I have not done before, so I need to look it up to see what he is talking about. It is research because I am investigating a topic (my program) and discovering what is it and applying it to my gym session.

An example of research from the media (on CNN) is an article titled “Teenage boy goes blind after existing on Pringles, white bread and French fries.” The article discussed how this young man’s particular diet, eventually lead to malnutrition and caused permanent damage to his optic nerve. The author and scientists that conducted the study warned against malnutrition and encouraged people to have a proper diet. This article was an example of research because they discovered the issue, and reported facts and theories about the cause of the boy’s blindness.

Scientific research is extremely interesting and is one of the favorite ones I got to look at today. The research article I found was titled “China's Lunar Rover Just Found Something Weird on the Far Side of the Moon.” The rover in question discovered a weird gel-like substance that scientists haven’t been able to identify yet. This is considered research because they have discovered a substance, developed theories about what it could be, and are looking into it further.
