What to write about?  Where to begin?  What is she looking for in the first assignment?

Much of these answers are up to you.  All I can tell you is you need to select a company that you have a good understanding of the company's structure, processes, success, and failures. Don't select Wal-mart if you have not worked there... Let me know if you have any questions.  In this weeks work, I will either approve your topic or give you a placeholder score of 20 (not a grade) and ask that you set up time with me that we can discuss your topic so that you can help me help you.  Last semester I had someone change their topic mid-way through the course as they began to work on their week 5 submission and realized they do not know how their company developed policies to offer a better strategy.  Know that by week 5, you should have sections of this started. This is not a project that you can wait until the final week to turn in because you have assignments in weeks 3 and 5 that are interrelated.

As you think about what organizational development plan you want to develop, remember you should include course topics, such as:

Organizational Culture/Structure/Leadership

Human Capital as a Source of Completive Advantage

EI: Personality, Intelligence, Attitudes, and Emotions

Communication and Decision Making

Leadership on Organizational Commitment, Power, and Workplace Politics

Organizational Change and Diversity

Training and Development: Learning and Perception

Group Dynamics and Teams Success

In week 5, you will present an annotated outline and an Abstract so you have an opportunity for me to review your progress and help guide you toward a successful outcome.  Everyone is developing a different plan because their unique work environment and your problems are different, but what I will give you is a good start. You should include as many of the topics listed above as you feel fits with your recommendation.

In week 1, you will provide the intro to the paper (I will discuss), company background/history, your rationale for selecting the company, what is broken or needs to be improved, and a conclusion.  The course assignment asks you to describe more topics but I think this is enough to get us talking to see if you are on the right track. I am not sure you have enough knowledge of the other aspects such as diagnosing the problem or identifying the org concepts until you actually learn about them?

You will expand on these elements to include the other topics shown (and more)  as you move through the course. If you have questions, please send me an email.
