Slide 2

The Americans with Disabilities Act is the most foundational and comprehensive civil rights law preventing disability discrimination. However, disability individuals still encounter many difficulties. For instance, Iris lacks someone to share her thoughts with, and also, she’s going through depression because of the divorce and loss of independence. Individuals with mobility disabilities such as Iris can’t interact with others. Also, they can’t provide enough care for themselves. In this area the elderly and the disabled population has been suffering homelessness do to lack of resources and falling through the cracks. I saw this during my first field experience. They are being discriminated against and pushed aside.

Slide 3

My policy proposal will enable the disabled to get the social interaction and care they need. Policymakers should analyze my proposal and make changes to the Americans with Disabled Act so that the aged can be taken care of. The policy proposal ensures that the disabled will be allocated a facility, which will help in improving her wellbeing. Also, it would give individuals like Iris enough time to recover from the pain they are undergoing through. The policy will ensure that their medical bills are taken care of without facing discriminations.

Slide 4

The policy also ensures that the disabled will remain in the facility for as long as they live, and a free will to make a choice whether they want to stay in the facility. I’ve made sure that the disabled will be handled with proper care considering they can’t fully take care of themselves. Besides, it also provides individuals with a caretaker who will give them some company during their difficult moments. Lastly, the policy provides the best solution for the disabled as well as informing them of all the consequences they might face depending on where they choose to stay. The policy will also ensure that the disabled can choose to stay at home and resources needed will be available for them under this policy. More ways to help the disabled to still stay connect with their community empowering them and helping them feel useful and not isolated.

Slide 5

The policy will be printed in the magazines and be broadcasted in the media so that it can reach a magnitude of people. The change of the policies must be made in the ADA even if it means holding demonstrations so that the policy can be affected in the Act. Also, I will present reforms during the International Day of Disabled individuals via media since the topic will be more relevant and the use of mass media will bring attention of the injustices that disabled people encounter. The platform will bring up debate Such as employment issues and statistics that I will present to them, and everyone will be aware of the concerns my policy is proposing and this will call for change.

Slide 6

I will also employ combative persuasion technique to defend the changes in the Americans with Disabilities Act. In the technique, I will use persuasion like national strikes and demonstrations to call for change in ADA and this will influence them to make necessary changes to avoid consequences of demonstrations and strikes. Also, I will use human rights activists and support groups for persons with disabilities to urge policymakers to support us and make necessary changes. This topic is very important because the baby boomers are getting older and will need assistance and if we do not address the issue now we will not be prepared.

Karlise Newman suggestion

Social employees have to advocate for the society and our patients by signing petitions, encouraging change, and lobbying.

Having a strong plan and educating the client, community, and her family on what is required to visualize the policy change.

Conclusion

The medical care policy can impact Iris’s life positively by taking care of her bills at the home care from individuals who love her,

Evolution of the Federal Shelter Program proposal shows that efficient policy advocates combine analytic skills in identifying, comparing, and choosing a policy category with other useful skills (Jansson, 2018).

Social employees respect and promote the client rights to self-determination and help them identify and clarify their objectives (NASW, 2017).

I will also employ combative persuasion technique to defend the changes in the Americans with Disabilities Act. In the technique, I will use persuasion like national strikes and demonstrations to call for change in ADA and this will influence them to make necessary changes to avoid consequences of demonstrations and strikes.
