Comments

Task 1

Planning research

During this phase, the researchers identified specific health concerns, worked with community partners to discuss the appropriateness and effectiveness of the health promotion strategies presented in the workshops, came up with appropriate consent procedures and spoke with neighborhood managers to help recruit participants.

Task 2

Gather Participants

87 participants of different ages and nationalities were originally invited for the the study. Of which 19 had to quit the study for reasons that included, transportation issues, taking care of children, moving away and being forbidden from going outside.

Task 3

Data Collection

Eight workshops were completed with a member of the research team observing and taking notes. In-depth interviews were also conducted on an individual basis. These interviews lasted from 60 to 90 minutes and were recorded.

Task 4

Interpret data

3 member from the research team reviewed the interview transcripts and generated a code book. The 3 then discussed all the findings and recategorized the 36 coding units. Through an inductive thematic analysis, the following four outcome themes emerged from the data: (a) increasing health literacy; (b) facilitating capacity to build social networks; (c) enhancing sense of self-worth; and (d) building psychological resilience. (pg. 138)

Task 5

Submit findings

The study like this is something the government can refer to when making health promotion policies. With identified health issues identified hopefully programs can be set up to address these issues.

Conclusion:

This study was conducted based on findings found in previous research. With a qualitative approach with a PAR method 4 themes emerged that needed to be addressed. These are increasing health literacy, facilitating capacity to build social networks, enhancing sense of self-worth and building psychological resilience. Hopefully the government can use this data to implement healthcare policies and create health-promoting programs.
