1. General topic I will focus on in my visual argument:

The general topic I will focus on is Hiking Destinations

Specific focus: hiking destinations in the areas surrounding San Diego

Purpose: to inform locals of San Diego and tourists about several popular hiking areas.

2. Pamphlet or Power Point? Be specific on how this will look and why? Provide research that is indicative to target audience:

This visual presentation will be presented through a Power Point. Sections and slides of the Power Point will be dedicated to each hiking destination. The base of the research that is indicative of each hiking spot/slide will include location, what to expect, number of miles, and overall scenery.

3. Probable audience I will target, given my topic & the way I will present it:

A probable audience will range from locals of San Diego to tourists visiting. Previous knowledge will allude to San Diego’s known destinations of light walking/hiking. Nonetheless, the Power Point is geared towards beginner adventure seekers who wish to partake in a hiking activity close by. Demographics include families with children, and individuals who wish to be active while outdoors.

4.Motivations influence visual presentations; consider what you want your audience to do with this information? What cultural narrative or value might be influencing this?

Not only is the visual presentation aimed to inform people about popular hiking areas in San Diego, but also bring an appreciation for outdoor activity. The cultural narrative should aim to preserve spaces for hiking and cultivate the value of hiking as an outlet for individuals and families.

5. Might there be objections?

One objection would be that the individuals in the audience would prefer “hidden” destinations of hiking, as opposed to popular spots in San Diego. This argument can be considered when picking certain trails to highlight. A few trails should include times of when to go to avoid crowds, or simply areas that are further distance which others may not drive to.

6. Consider, do you need to identify sources or not?

Sources identified will include state parks, other credible hiking professionals, and well-known review outlets.

7. Style & tone of my writing, and why:

The style of my writing will be conversational, and the tone will be casual but informing. I hope to attract an audience who will find my sources and research credible, in which they will be inspired to partake in hiking activities on the recommended suggestions.

Design Parameters:

This image of this Power Point slide taken from PowerShow shows tips that beginner hikers should take into consideration. While the overall slide is informative, some slides like the one shown above may contain too much wording that a viewer can easily skim across. Some ideas to take away from this Power Point is to make use of sub headers and make my visual presentation easy to read and follow.
