Directions: Students you are to access the Occupational Safety and Health website at www.osha.gov carefully read and fully understand variances documentation and the application process. Then you are to identify one permanent variance and describe the variance request process and acceptance to OSHA. At the time this course was developed the link below https://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/variances/variances_ineffect.html provided will take you to where variances are stored on OSHA’s website. You will be scored on how much information you provide on the variance.

Minimum items to be provided include(s):

1. Name of the company: What is the company’s name? Are they doing business under another name (dba)?

2. Effective date: When did this variance happen?

3. Variance standard/application: What industry is this? What is the standard and which part is the company opting out of: Ex. 29 CFR 1910…. 1030(a)(1).

4. Applicable state(s) where variance applies: KY, VA

5. Why was the permanent variance granted? Go read the standard and the section(s) they are trying to opt of to understand why they are requesting a variance. Provide an explanation of how the variance works in relation to the standard (20 points).
