Strengths

After completing the strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were competition, achiever, consistency, harmony, and discipline. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to compete. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.

Competition is by far one of the best strengths you can have. I am glad because it showed up as being my number one strength. In today’s society you will get no were without being competitive because in order to be successful you have to compete with everyone else in the world to come out on top. It has even come so far in today’s society that those with four year bachelor’s degrees aren’t even enough in some cases. I am a football player so I have to compete every single day, if I want to play then I have to out compete and beat everyone else. I am glad competition is my number one strength because to me it is the most important strength.

My second strength is being an achiever. Being an achiever means that you have great stamina and you are always working hard to complete your goals. Achievers also like to be very productive and busy. If they have something that needs to be done then they will pick that over sitting down and doing it later. This strength is very good as well because it means I am always on top of things and getting done what I have to get done. This will be great to have in the working field because I will not fall behind and procrastinate causing customers to get angry or even losing my job. An achiever is normally your supervisors, managers, vice presidents, etc. The reason for this is because they tend to normally have more things to do and more on their plate and they can handle it all very well without falling behind.

Would you like to have consistency in your top five strengths? It ends up being my number three and it is such a great strength to have. It is a different kind of consistency than you are thinking. It isn’t the consistency where you do well time and time again without messing up or always doing your work without doing it. People with this consistency are treating all people the same no matter the situation. They don’t care about your background or what connections you have. They are very aware people and think of everyone equal. I have seen this strength in me when I just recently helped out at the church working a camp with autistic children. We were assigned three children to stay with the whole day and we had to play various sports with them and get to know them. I had a great time with these kids and although they were autistic I had a great time and didn’t really even notice they had it. We all got along very well and I treated them just as if they are anyone else.

When you hear harmony your mind automatically takes you to your folder of music. It being a strength of mine, it has nothing to do with music. This is the only one of my strengths that I absolutely didn’t expect to get. Saying that I had no idea what it was either. I thought of music as soon as I saw it and I told myself, “I have strength in music?” I have no history in music playing whatsoever so it stumped me. The strength of having harmony is when people do not like to argue so they seek for areas in agreement. This was very interesting because this describes me very strongly. If my friends and I ever disagree, I will always act like they are right even if I know they aren’t just so there is no arguing. I will try to avoid arguing as much as possible because I dislike it so much. I can see there being a downside to this strength as well.In some situations I need to keep arguing if I know I’m right. It would be standing up for what my opinion is and every body’s opinion is important. This strength tells me that I need to stop trying to avoid arguing and sometimes let it happen. If I know that I’m right then why give up. This is the only strength I didn’t like about myself as well. It does have some good sides to it but I do see there being many weaker sides to it.

My final strength is discipline. Even though it is my fifth, this is one of my favorites. I would say this describes me most. Discipline is when the person loves to have a routine and structure in everything they do. They like to plan out there whole day and follow it exactly. I do this with all of my school work especially. I will write down all of my homework, what day it is due, what is going on the next day, etc. I hate going through my day not knowing exactly what is going on because then I feel rushed and as if I am going to miss something. I do not see there being one weakness in discipline. It is all positive and anything with discipline is good. I began to learn discipline at a very young age. In the practices and games it is all about discipline. From the start of warm-ups till the last play, it is all discipline. If there is no discipline on the field then it will look terrible and you will most likely get beaten. My dad has always told me that if I have discipline in life then I will be a very successful person. This was far before I knew my five strengths so it was really cool to see discipline come up on my list. I could relate to it very well and had a great mental picture from my past experiences and what this strength can do for a person.

My five strengths are very good and important to have to be successful in life. They are even better if you work with a person that has some strength’s you don’t have and strength’s you have that they don’t. It will make your tasks you are trying to complete much easier because all of your strengths are working together making it much easier for one another. Now knowing all of my strengths very good I can now know what areas to work in which will make it easier for me because I will be strong in that area. I did see some strength’s on the list that I didn’t have that would benefit me. I am going to begin to work on some of the things I do like becoming a woo. That will help me out a lot with my connections and getting to know more people. Being a woo will benefit me greatly in the working field and I plan on gaining this strength.I can now work on strengthening every part of me making me a strong person in every strength on the list.
