Brazil’s and It’s Machismo History

Women’s rights in Brazil is something to have in account for. Since the beginning of it’s history Brazil has been impacted by patriarchal traditions that the Iberian culture brought to it through the encomienda system that pushed economic dependence in women and indigenous people. With this happening, society in Brazil adapted to this patriarchal values and men are the ones who take decisions, work, and are the ones that carry the honor in a household. In the other hand, women are subjected to be weak and are not capable of this. Also, today’s role of women in Brazil is important, there is a stigma on Brazilian women looks on their education and job. Women’s rights in Brazil such as constitutional, property, reproductive, domestic, and rape rights are just unbelievable how late they were added into and protected by the constitution. Also, the introduction of these rights is mostly due to important women leaders of feminism movements in Brazil who pushed for this to happen. Political representation in Brazil is also another topic to be aware of, the structure of cabinets and the support of women or how the presidents of Brazil refer to the women’s movement is important. In this paper I want to talk about the historical context of patriarchal values and influence on Brazil, women’s suffrage, when their rights were added and protected by the constitution, their looks and stigma today, and how they represent and are represented in politics.
