Case Study Outline Instructions

In preparation for your Case Study Paper that is due in Module 6, you will create a working outline for one of the three optional case studies provided in the Assignments Instructions Folder. While it is not necessary to adhere to any specific format, you will need to use a logical and organized approach. Roman numerals, letters, and cardinal numbers may be used. Additionally, if you have an I you must have a II; If you have an A, you must have a B; If you have an i, you must have an ii; and if you have a 1, you must have a 2.

The outline must be written in complete sentences but not in paragraph form. Any source you intend to use within each section should be properly cited with the information it coincides with. The final section should be a reference page of the sources you intend to use. While you must have eight sources for your outline and eight for your Final Case Study Paper, they may be different or you may have more as you refine your paper. Most of your eight sources should be used in your action plan to create a unified approach as to how you will counsel the couple. Again, as you refine your paper, your final result may end up looking different from your outline. This is simply to help you start preparing in advance! Keep the headers as shown below as these will help you when you go to write your final paper.

Your Case Study Outline must include the following headings and content:

Introduction

· Introductory sentence. Introduce the couple and their background.

· Explanation of the assessment and what a “conflicted couple” is

· A thesis statement addressing each of the areas of the Case Study in one complete sentence.

Key Areas

· List three strengths for the couple

· List three weaknesses for the couple

Personalities

· Briefly explain the 5 dimensions of the SCOPE personality assessment

· A statement about the male’s score on every component or letter in comparison to the female’s score on every component or letter. Essentially, you need one sentence about each letter that compares the two scores, so five points

Action Plan

· Three ideas you will use in counseling. These could be vital concepts for this particular couple that stem from a theory, techniques you think are essential to helping the pair, or an area that specifically needs to be addressed in counseling. Do not count your local resource or a homework assignment as one of these unless you have multiple

· A homework assignment to give to the couple

· A local resource from your area that the couple could use

· Five of eight (or most of your) sources are used in this section and are properly cited

Conclusion

· Introductory sentence

· Restate thesis in a new way

References

· At least eight sources properly formatted as you choose (APA, MLA, Turabian/Chicago, etc.)

While your outline should be a great help to getting you started on your final paper, take note that the most important requirement for the final submission is the explanation of implications for each claim (this is not required in the outline) but it is imperative for the final.
