Introduction

Ageism has become an alarming issue in the current era in both the developed and the developing countries and has resulted in the age discrimination in the employment sector. Age discrimination has since been a global issue affecting the health and rights of humans globally and is as well an issue that needs the attention of both the national and international forces. Many people have at one time complained of unfair treatment from the workplaces because of their ages. However, there is various discrimination acts, in one of the state documents that protect people from such incidences. In Bangladesh, there are many female populations that have the lowest percentage of the labor market. The women in the society have been considered irrelevant in the society and also a weak group of people. Ageism in the country is a critical case because of low economic capacity, poverty and cultural reasons among other factors. This paper is meant to identify any unfair treatment related to age issues in the Dhaka community in Bangladesh.

Rationale for the research

Bangladesh has witnessed many cases of age discrimination in the workplace following cases of many people who have been victimized. This paper aims at identifying if there really exist any cases of age discrimination in the employment sector in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Following the insights that most of the female population in the country are considered insignificant, and that they are the lowest employed population, this paper intends to prove if the case is as a result of age discrimination. Literature has it that age discrimination in Dhaka has had severe impacts on the community. This paper will be giving any measures that the state has employed to cab the issue of age discrimination in the workplace (Ahmed & McGillivray, 2015). Past studies have indicated that Bangladesh has taken many major steps to ensure the case of ageism in the workplace is resolved and taken care. The studies have also indicated that there have been plans to ensure that the women development plan is implemented. The government of Bangladesh has been spotted to have made a lot of efforts to invest in the education of the female gender. The literature review has also indicated that the government has had many programs that are meant to address the unfair treatment in the employment sector. One of the stated programs is the training regarding the ethical behaviors in the workplace that is offered in the institutions to increase awareness of the active and passive factors on equality and fair treatment. Other mentioned programs include talks based on the issues faced by the victims of unfair treatment because of their age. The talks offer platforms where people can open up and display their most affected points (Denmark, Goldstein, Thies &Tworecke, 2015).

Aims and Objectives

Age discrimination in Bangladesh has been a situation changing over time following the considerable economic transitions and the social changes (McIlroy, 2015). There is a high impact of the socio-cultural setting of Dhaka, Bangladesh on age discrimination in the employment sector.

· To explore the age discrimination in the employment sector

1. Does age discrimination exist in the employment sector?

2. What are the causes of age discrimination in the employment sector?

3. What are the impacts of age discrimination in the employment sector?

Research Design

The study will work with a non-interventional study basis because there will be no interventions. There will only be data collection from various situations that can be researched. The research will include elements of both the qualitative and quantitative studies.

Sampling Procedure

The target sample for the study will be the employees of the bank, both the men and women. They type of sampling will be convenience sampling because the budget and the time constraint and the research questionnaires will be administered to all the three designation levels of the banking hierarchy; Officer Grade 1, Officer Grade 2 and Officer Grade 3. The questionnaires will be administered in all the banks in Dhaka and every bank will be given 10 copies. The questionnaires will be administered middle-aged persons as these are the people prone to age discrimination.

Data Collection Procedure

To collect the data, questionnaires will be used that will consist of questions regarding the discrimination acts faced by the respondents and questions regarding organizational commitment. The questions regarding trust can also be included in the forms and the performance of the employees regarding the knowledge of principles, facts, and ideas regarding the job. The procedural knowledge of the data collection will include elements such as how the work should be done and skills. There will also be motivational questions and the data collection procedure will all be what is included in the questionnaire.

Draft Research Instrument

· Research instruments will include;

· SPSS software,

· ANOVA software,

· Questionnaires,

· Data collection team

Proposed Data Analysis

The collected data will be analyzed using the SPSS software because it’s correlational, the regression-based analysis will be helpful in sorting the variables. ANOVA would then be used for the moderator. SPSS would be used because it is easily available and also because of its ease of use and data portability and exportability to other MS Office packages (Prentice, 2017). The use of the SPSS and ANOVA will be useful in the study of the results of the analysis will be reliable and appropriate for use for both educational and business purposes.

Ethical Considerations

The research is expected to follow all the ethical aspects of research studies. The confidentiality involved in the participation of the research is to be upheld at the highest priority. No information regarding the participants and their responses to the research questionnaires shall be made public without the consent of the participants. Considering the research is one involving human participants, all the legal considerations regarding human participants in research shall be upheld. The research is meant to be used for the purpose of academic and business assistance and as such, the participants should be notified prior to their participation the exact reasons for the data they will be giving (Khan, 2015).

Limitations and Strengths of the project

The study is associated with certain limitations including the fact that it is impossible to venture into other avenues. One of the limitations is that the study setting is in the banking sector and the results cannot be used for the sake of other sectors. Some other research with different sectors would need to carry a research that will have results that can be generalized. Another limitation is that the sample size should be wider to be able to gain a wider effect on the results as even the young age has its forms of discriminations (Das, Haldar, Gupta & Mitra, 2016).

The key advantage of the study goes to the banking sector as the research is specifically related to banks. The study can allow the HR managers and the management officers in the banking sector to identify the opportunities in their workplace to tackle the age discrimination. The latter can in return benefit the bank as the commitment, and trust towards the bank will rise. The managers will also be able to concentrate better on the result of the improved health and thus, the performance of the employee would definitely increase. This will then contribute to the improved job performance of the staff and be a positive influence towards the productivity of the organization (Devine & Wood, 2017).
