He later earned a masters degree in Operations Research while working as a full time employee in Kurt Salmon Associates (Sen. David Perdue, n.d). In his role as a consultant under the umbrella -Kurt Salmon Associates, he worked with several companies to help their management teams expand business operations. David met his wife in the first grade and married her soon after his bachelor’s degree. The couple has now been married for 46 years. Although he was brought up in Warner Robins, Georgia, David currently lives with his family in Glynn County, Georgia. He believes in Christianity and worships at Wesley United Methodist Church (Sen. On previous career, David Perdue worked as a CEO in major corporations. His popularity in the American corporate world for over 40 years is featured by companies such as Reebok Sara Lee and Haggar. Additionally, David’s status of a Fortune 500 CEO is associated with the growth of Dollar General which in turn led to creation of multiple quality jobs. He is also a co-founder of a Georgia-based global trading organization known as Perdue Partners (Sen. David Perdue, n.d)

Electoral history and political ideology

David Perdue had (has) never been mandated to run a public office prior to his election as the Senator of Georgia. His motivations for joining active politics were; the desire to control government spending, the need to tackle the crisis of national debt and his intention to support the growth of the United States economy. In this case, David Perdue felt that he understood the Impact of government policies on the economy and the business world. When it comes to political profile, Perdue’s official campaign website (https://perduesenate.com/) highlights the need to change the situation and the results in Washington by sending a different kind of person there. He therefore believes that he is one of the right people who can change the direction of the government.

Position in congress

David Perdue currently sits in four committees namely; the Armed Services Committee; Banking Committee; Agriculture Committee; and Budget Committee (Sen. David Perdue, n.d). More specifically, he chairs the subcommittee on SeaPower and is a member of the subcommittees on Cybersecurity and Readiness and Management Support (GovTrack., n.d.). David Perdue also chairs the subcommittee on housing and is a member to the subcommittees on Economic Policy and Securities. He is also a member to the subcommittees on Commodities, Risk Management, and Trade, Conservation, Forestry, and Natural Resources, and Livestock, Marketing, and Agriculture Security (GovTrack., n.d.). The committees and subcommittees give him the chance to solve contentious issues related to national debt and global security.

Through his influence in Senate Armed Services Committee, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was recently passed. David managed to secure more than 30 provisions in the bill that were crucial to the wellbeing of Georgia (Mena Report, 2018). For example, the bill directed the department of defense to oversee Infrastructure and Base Revitalization that would benefit Georgia bases and the entire Georgias military community. Senator David Perdue has also, sponsored 7 bills which were enacted in due course. Some of these bills were Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest Land Adjustment Act and the No Hero Left Untreated Act that were all enacted (GovTrack., n.d.).

Position on major issues

According to Arkin and Everett (2019), the inner opposition against President Trump within the Republican Party is weakening. This is manifested by Senator David Perdue’s position on National security issues. He perceives the world to be more dangerous now than any other time in his lifetime. He therefore supports the remedy to national security where Trump’s prioritized building a boarder wall. Perdue agrees with the president that Democrats are only politicizing the issue instead of providing solutions to national security threats. He thus believes that Democrats should be forced to negotiate in order to communicate to the International partners of the United States’ dedication towards defending her own borders. Productive negotiations would also speed up the budgeting process in the context of national security.

On the Immigration debate, Sen. David Perdue takes a conservative approach. He is convinced that the United States needs to change its legal framework in the context of family-based immigration rules and the diversity visa lottery program (Shapiro, 2018). He believes that the (RAISE) Act should be included in any attempts to reform American Immigration with the ultimate objective of fixing the economy. It gives the US a chance to start on a high ground in the efforts to address the immigration problem. In addition, it’s supported by best practices in other countries. He believes that the RAISE Act considers the groups of people that are contributory to the United States economy and thus follows a Merit-Based System (Sen. David Perdue, 2017). In addition it maintains the refugee category and eliminates with the visa lottery

When it comes to trade, David believes that the government needs to implement tax changes where the corporate tax should be reduced while the repatriation tax is eliminated (Sen. David Perdue, 2018). In this case, he is of the view that the corporate tax makes the United States more competitive while the repatriation tax is outdated. These changes will enable the nation to improve trade by leveling the playing field. Sen. David Perdue also believes that trade can also be improved by giving open access to other markets.

Sen. David Perdue is also concerned with the alarming $21 trillion of debt which burdens the US economy. He believes that in dealing with the debt crisis the government has to do away with the old tax structure. In addition, the overburdening regulation in the business environment should be eliminated what a time when the government also needs to unleash America’s energy potential.( I don’t understand what you’re trying to say) David Perdue is concerned with the Funding Failure which he considers a major dysfunction in Washington (Sen. David Perdue, 2018). In this case, funding for a preceding fiscal year is usually delayed up to the end of the first quarter of a current year. He believes that this needs to end in order to enhance economic growth. Additionally, he talks about reducing bureaucratic waste at the Pentagon. In this case, he followed the study by the defense business board which indicated that Military bureaucracy wastages accumulated to about $125 billion which could be invested in other critical areas (Sen. David Perdue, 2016).

Demographics and voting patterns

The politics of Georgia have been on a dynamic shift over the last decade. This has been attributed to the economy spawn that stimulated a population boom and an associated demographic shift. For this reason, Stolberg (2014) argues that Georgia was considered a conservative state only when Democrats held power. Additionally, Black Democrats power has long been concentrated in Atlanta but in the state legislature Republican where whites are the majority, the democrats are outnumbered two to one (Stolberg, 2014). This influenced the voting patterns that gifted Perdue victory
