Coaching Session 2

On 21st August 2019, the first coaching session was held in a local churches. As the coach, I decided to help a client by the name of K. Doss. I started the session as the coach by asking her the reason why she came for the coaching session which would help me establish methods of assisting her. Ms. Doss indicated she needed help in monetary planning and saving. Since being unemployment, she never had the ability to buy the things she needed nor wanted. However, since working, Ms. Doss does not have a good habit when it came to saving. As a coach, I began with coach commitment and guiding the procedure by giving genuine standard of living objectives by notifying her that saving is not a spontaneous procedure.

Ms. Doss clarified that she was a compulsive shopper and impulsive buyer who could end up buying any good she saw online provided she had the funds to complete the transaction totally ignoring the worth of money management. The first explanation I offered as the coach was creation of a budget which should be prepared in advance before she gets her monthly salary. I also told her that money should not be used instinctively but only for emergency situations such as going to the hospital when sick or going for a medical checkup. In the course of our interaction and conversation, I noticed that her greatest urge to spend extravagantly was on things to do with beauty. I inquired from her on the possessions that take a huge portion of her cash where she stated accessories, clothes and shoes. I came to the realized that she held these things precious to her heart since she was a woman trying so hard to defend her impulsive purchasing. I came to a careful conclusion that her that her major problem was attitude but no so much saving. I inquired why she had an unquenchable thirst to buy all the accessories, shoes and clothes now and then, where she stated that as a lady she had the desire to appear good and be on the level with other ladies. The main thing she wants to comprehend is that humans have varied guidelines, and so our urgencies must be to eradicate external undesirable economic influencers. By conclusion of the meeting, as complicated as it was her approach began shifting.

The session had two objectives to alter the approach toward saving and life in general, and to generate a maintainable philosophy of saving. According to Zenger and Stinnett (2010), coaching provides a client an opportunity for personal development, therefore, goals are important. The short-term goal was to alter her approach towards saving and life in general. The long-term goal was to generate a bearable philosophy of saving. The two aims are precarious to Ms. Doss. The main goal why people, particularly ladies lack a saving tradition due to profligate expenditure as they attempt to be similar to others. Then it is important to alter their mentality on why and how they spend. One advantage of coaching is increasing self-confidence (Anderson, 2017). Cash should be allotted to purchase things we find essential but not aiming to make our lives similar to others. Saving ought to be made a philosophy so that it not only happens in the first months but long after the coaching session is over. Unless she alter her approach towards expenditure and advances a maintainable philosophy, saving will just be a wish.

Ms. Doss is of the expectation that she will have saving routine. She wishes to tell how she can rank her wants so that she won’t have to devote all her cash and even left nearly applying for a loan before receiving her salary. By way of investments, she needs to progress a business through the extra resources and to generate other rivulets of income. The challenges that Ms. Doss may face from achieving the goal is that she has the natural instincts as a female to compete with other to be on the same level of life with other ladies. Anderson (2017) states that some clients’ needs to be motivated and reminded that they can do it because they think the change is not possible. She will naturally also offer resistance to the objectives because she will feel she is lagging behind in life and she has no culture of saving. Ms. Doss can overcome her fears by starting cutting on her expenditure on shoes, clothes and accessories.

However, coaching works best when the coach can share the same version of what needs to a happen to their client and understand their past challenges (Zenger & Stinnett, 2010). As a coach, I would prepare for the next coaching in three ways. First, I would develop a coaching development plan which would place making the conversation achieve goals of the coaching session. Zenger and Stinnett (2010) encourages the coach to have a purpose and agenda which provides clear expectation. Secondly, I would construct, develop and examine alternative solutions or actions. This will allow me to become better prepare for obstacles or challenges that I could possible foresee. Lastly, I will provide following appointments and next step actions plans for each client. This allows me to keep the client motivated and encouraged to follow through with my recommendations and advice. Overall, being able to review and prepare in advance to ensure the coaching is beneficial to Ms. Doss or any client is always best practice (Zenger & Stinnett, 2010).
