ABSOLUTELY NO PLAGIARISM!!!!!!!

You will write a research paper about the demographic transition model and global food production and distribution for a growing human population to meet global food security goals. You must use APA format for the paper and documentation.

Include the following:

  • Describe the demographic transition model and how it was developed by demographers.
  • Describe the 4 phases of demographic transition.
    • For each phase, compare crude birth rates (CBR) to crude death rates (CDR), and state whether the population is stable, growing, or declining in each. ·
  • According to demographers, what factors lead to a decline of the CDR in phase two and the CBR in phase three of the demographic transition? ·
  • Briefly describe 3 living conditions in developed countries that have reached phase four, and contrast them with these same conditions in developing countries that remain in earlier phases.
    • Note: When comparing and contrasting, include details for each of the entities being compared and contrasted. For example, if comparing availability of clean water in a developed country, contrast availability of clean water in a developing country.
  • Research and describe a program for developing countries that would help improve 1 of the 3 conditions that you compared.
  • Food security means that everyone has an adequate amount of nutritious food to lead healthy lives. Research and describe 1 specific program that helps developing countries reach food security goals.

Instructor's Comments:

This assignment is very straightforward. Please start with your textbook as your first resource. See page 62 for an overview of the phases of Demographic Transition.

One miscommunication I encounter is that students will list the phases of demographic transition. Be careful here, you are asked to DESCRIBE. This means you will write a narrative of what the growth curve looks like, what the birth and death rates are, what contributes to these rates, and what type of society is seen in each.

If you would like to choose a specific developing country to make your descriptions more specific, you are welcome to do so. India, Gabon, and Malaysia for example, are countries currently in Demographic Phase III.

This is a terrific website to help explain the phases of demographic transition:

http://www.prb.org/Publications/Datasheets/2011/world-population-data-sheet.aspx

Scroll down to Population Bulletin. You can then click on each Phase for more information.

Please be sure to answer all of the questions. Feel free to use the questions as headings if you want to organize your report in that manner.

Grading:

Content is worth ~70% (90 points). I divide this up by question.

Development of Demographic Transition Model and general description of the model (9 points).

4 Phases of demographic transition (7 points each (28 points)).

Factors leading to decline of death rates in Phase 2 and in birth rates in Phase 3 (8 points each (16 points)) .

Comparison of three living conditions (7 points each (21pts)).

One program to assist a country transition up to Phase 4 (8 points).

One program to assist with food security (8 points).

Organization, language, grammar, spelling (20 points).

Citations and references (5 points).

APA format including a title page and abstract (5 points).
