Utilize the “Level of Cognitive Demand” professional development Blackline Master from the text, Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally (Van de Walle, Karp, & Bay-Williams, 2013) to assess and evaluate the lesson. This Blackline Master resource can be found on pages 36-37 of the text or in the PDToolkit. Address the following in two to three pages.
• Give an overview of the lesson.
• What elements of the “Levels of Cognitive Demand” are evident in the lesson? Which elements are not evident in the lesson?
• Describe your overall evaluation of whether this task/lesson has the potential to engage students in higher-level thinking.
• What adaptations would you make to the task or lesson in order to increase the potential for higher-level thinking?
