Evaluation is critical to management knowing how the facility is progressing. They will see that they are either on board with what they are working to achieve or possible exceeding the expectations and that would show success. An evaluation showing success can give them successful pointers for future program or service goals and objectives. An evaluation that shows that progress is slower than expected or not happening at all can allow for corrections to be made in order to make it successful with control of the situation. "Control which emphasizes on taking necessary actions in the light of gap that exists between intended results and actual results in the strategic action" (Amarteifio, Okorley, & Sergeot, 2009, p. 8). If an issue is found early on, then it can be corrected before the action can do too much harm. Many times this is what the outcome of an evaluation does and is necessary for the vitality of a program, department, or facility as a whole. For example if a service offered is costing twice as much as it is bringing in, then changes will need to take place to cut costs and increase revenues. If changes are not made, the service could end up running the entire facility in financial ruin. Knowing where changes are needed is important, because without the knowledge of the evaluation the control taken may not even address the issue.

Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of a strategic plan is just as important as the goals developed and the plan in which to reach such goals.  Evaluation and control highlights the effectiveness and efficiency of the strategic plan.  Monitoring and evaluating the plan allow management to assess whether the organization is going in the desired direction to reach the strategic goals.  For example, utilizing benchmarks such as the ROI, net profits, customer satisfaction rates, and employee turnover rates are effective means to measure the performance of a strategic plan. Strategic evaluation aids management with ensuring that actionable steps chosen to reach desired objectives are "specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-limited" (Cross, n.d., p.1).   Employing the SMART criteria provide health leaders with the opportunity to set milestones and evaluate the progression of the plan toward the organizational goals.   Data collected from the evaluation also allow management to modify the plan if needed and to foster continuous improvements for the sustainability of the organization. For example, poor performance of a plan can aid management with discovering if there is any inefficiency in team performance such as the buy-in of employees or poor strategies.    Such information will help leaders to determine a corrective action plan to meet desired performance by modifying the strategic process and reframing the plan to add value to the organization.

The point of doing evaluation and control is to help the organization see what issues come up, how to fix them, and seeing what does work for the organization. An organization that is severely flawed and does not have any plans to correct issues is doomed to fail. The evaluation and control process involves corporate activities and performance results being monitored to be compared to the desired or estimated performance outcomes (Hunger and Wheelen, 2011). The textbook shows the five steps to doing the evaluation and control process which any organization can follow.

Once the organization does an evaluation of its operations, controls have to be found that will deal with issues. Some controls would be behavior controls, external controls, internal controls, individual controls, and so forth. For behavioral controls, an organization can enact policies or operation standards as to how people should act in the workplace. That could be how to talk to others and how to handle certain situations. For example, if a person in a medical clinic starts to get loud and confrontational, the employees would have a set standard of operations dealing how to handle that person. In regards to changes in behavior, if an issue keeps reoccurring that dealt with certain behaviors that effect organization operations, it is the duty of the business to change those behaviors for the good of the customers and business as a whole. There are some external controls that cannot be controlled but can be anticipated so solutions can be developed.

In my personal perspective the most important element in the strategic plan is the implementation process because after the development of a great strategy, it is necessary to have an outstanding implementation process otherwise the strategy and the entire strategic plan will be unsuccessful. The strategy implementation is fundamental in the strategic planning and represent the time to place in action all that great ideas content in the strategy and requires the development  several programs and procedures, and the development of budget plan as well.  Previous to its execution the organization's leaders should have a clear understanding of all factors that could have an effect in the implementation process. It is important for the leadership and strategy implementation team to work toward that organization's functional areas, and all structures and division to have communion between each other's, reaching the necessary synergy to maintain the organization's distinctive competence. It is necessary at this point that developed program describe clear and in detail every single step of the process, and also to serve as a guidance of the smart utilization of the resources during the process. After the program is developed is fundamental to work in the budget projection that will support the implementation because without the necessary funding the strategy becomes impractical. Another big issue to deal during the implementation process is with the organizational culture and workforce behaviors that could affect the implementation process.
