For this post, you are going to play the role of test maker. You will explore your understanding of the course concepts by constructing your own word problems as if you are designing them for a state test. Refer to the McKellar (2009) text for guidance.
Construct a total of eight word problems that include the following:
• Adding and subtracting with variables (two word problems)
• Multiplying and dividing with variables (two word problems)
• Combining like terms (two word problems)
• Solving equations (two word problems)
These word problems must be up to standard with Common Core Standards or your local state standardized exam. Write them with the same quality of those on the state standardized exams. Remember, you may have some multiple choice questions, but there should be some short response questions as well.
Collect your classmates’ word problems and add them to your collection to incorporate into your lessons as needed. These are great to use for daily warm-ups, trivia, review games, or even on tests or quizzes.
