Choose two of the options listed below, using a different choice for each of your poems. All options require ample use of concrete images with at least three of five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell). Idioms, dead metaphors, and cliches are to be avoided. Vivid, specific details should be used to help your readers fully experience your poems. Careful attention should be paid to every word chosen. Each poem must be from 12 to 25 lines, and labeled with the type of poem written.

--A poem that uses both exact rhyme AND slant rhyme in fairly equal amounts.

--A poem that uses free verse with animism, anthropomorphism, or personification (or any combination of the three devices), without rhyme.

--A poem that uses synesthesia in several ways and frequently throughout the poem, without rhyme.

--A poem that uses visible form without rhyme.

--A poem that uses free verse, ample metaphors, and moderate amounts of alliteration and assonance without rhyme.

--A poem that uses clear, regular rhythm with anaphora and without rhyme
