Global Logistics Solutions: A Guide to the Problems Shippers Face, Andrea MacDonald. World Trade. Troy: May 2007. Vol.20, Iss. 5; pgs. 36 - 40. Available in the Trident Online Library.

Abstract:
As companies expand their supply chains worldwide, logistics complications grow and solutions become more problematic. In order to provide reliable, quality services, global logistics providers must be extremely flexible. Shippers need to ask their logistics providers what level of visibility their systems can provide. Supply chains are longer these days than ever before, and that makes communication with the consignee critical. Information needs to be online and accessible to all supply chain partners. The integrated IT solutions provide global visibility of shipments, orders, and inventory moving through the customers' supply chains. To minimize the risk of delays at ocean ports, there are a number of long-term and short-term strategies that shippers can implement to maintain or improve product flow. The most overlooked strategy is also the easiest -- the assurance of accurate and complete documentation. Another strategy to consider is the pre-clearance of cargo.
