Over the last two weeks, you have read about how people learn. Part of looking at this issue is the role of cognitive science and brain-based learning in the classroom. After reading the materials for this week and participating in discussions about applications of these ideas to the classroom, in this assignment you will compare your own understanding of the pros and cons with research on myths about this kind of learning.

Complete the following assignment using the information in this week’s readings in the text, one of the article choices in the Required Studies, and two articles from Debunking Brain Myths

1. Choose one of the following:

Select one myth and clearly identify what is known to be accurate and inaccurate about that idea. Tie this to your reading about how people learn and how neuroscience or cognitive science concepts have been appropriated for educational use.

Dig deeper into an issue you uncovered in the reading about the different opinions and concepts present in this field. Rather than a specific myth, you may choose a broader issue (e.g., how teachers are taught about cognitive science and brain-based learning, how professional development has impacted this work, how ideas get from neuroscience researchers to teachers).

2. Create a 5-minute video exploring your understanding of this topic by doing one of the following:

Make a video of yourself discussing the topic.

Include an APA-style reference list for the material you cited.

Note: When submitting your video, do not upload the file to the dropbox. Video files are too large to be uploaded to Blackboard’s assignment dropbox. Instead upload your video to a streaming site, such as Youtube or Vimeo, and share the link to the video. To ensure privacy, please review privacy settings before publishing your video. Alternatively, you can use Dropbox, Google Drive, or WeTransfer to host the file and share the link to the hosted file with your instructor.

Create a narrated Prezi presentation. Submit the sharable Prezi link to the assignment dropbox.

Note: Prezi files cannot be uploaded to Blackboard.

3. Submit your presentation to the assignment dropbox.

Support your statements with evidence from the Required Studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.
