Write a proposal reviewing the literature on a particular scientific question and then, most importantly, propose specific experiment(s) that would extend our understanding of that scientific question. Choose an area by reviewing a paper (one or more) that represents the state of knowledge on a particular scientific question of interest. Describe what that state of knowledge is. Then, most importantly, propose one or more experiments to extend our knowledge related to that scientific question. Describe the experiments in some detail, more than a typical discussion/figure in a textbook, but also less than a published paper might have. Also discuss that various possible outcomes of the experiment and how you would interpret them. Write a paper containing this content, this is the style of a published paper: abstract, introduction, methods and materials, discussion, conclusions, and references. Seven – 15 pages is typical.
