  • Describe in words what the solution sets mean, and then display a simple line graph for each solution set as demonstrated in the Instructor Guidance in the left navigation toolbar.

  • Incorporate the following five math vocabulary words into your discussion. Use bold font to emphasize the words in your writing (Do not write definitions for the words; use them appropriately in sentences describing your math work.):
    • Compound inequalities
    • And
    • Or
    • Intersection
    • Union
  • I already have the answer to the equation which is
  • your "or" compound inequality is 12 – x > 15 or 4x – 13 > 7

    First inequality:

      12 – x > 15

      12 > 15 + x

      12 - 15 > x

      -3 > x

       x < -3

    Second inequality:

      4x – 13 > 7

      4x > 7  + 13

      4x > 20

      x > 20/4

      x > 5

Hence, our solution is as follows: x<-3 or x>5

    Your "and" compound inequality is -16 ≤ 2 + 9x ≤ 11.

    First inequality:

      -16 ≤ 2 + 9x

      -16 - 2 ≤ 9x

      -18 ≤ 9x

      -2 ≤ x

      x ≥ -2

    Second inequality

      2 + 9x ≤ 11

      9x ≤ 11 - 2

      9x ≤ 9

      x ≤ 1

    Hence, our solution is: ≥ -2 and ≤ 1

Another way of saying this is: -2 ≤ ≤ 1
