Dee Lerious is a very savvy detective for the Phlatt City Police Department. She is interviewing Justin Kase about his possible involvement with some stolen cars. After her introduction, Dee pulls her chair up to Justin within two feet. Justin is calm and somewhat recalcitrant for the first few minutes and twirls a pencil on the corner of the table separating the two of them. While Dee is explaining to Justin why he is being questioned, Justin is slightly leaning forward with his legs under the chair, and he is looking at the photographs of former Phlatt City police chiefs on the wall behind Dee. Justin hesitates with his responses, stammers a little, blinks his eyes as if he had some foreign matter in them, frowns, and says, “On my mother’s grave, I don’t know nothing about what you’re talking about, and if you got something on me, show me the evidence right now or I’m leaving”. He also says that he has more important things to do and that the cops should be out catching murderers and rapists instead of hassling honest business people like himself. Dee responds by saying that she has no conclusive proof, but she just wanted to see what Justin might know since he is in the used car parts business. Dee gets up and escorts Justin out of the interrogation room and apologizes for taking up his valuable time.

Before Dee conducted this interview/interrogation, what preparations should she have made? Discuss what is probably on Dee’s mind with respect to how she will continue working this case, and what questions she might ask Justin if she has another opportunity to speak to him.
