International Studies Paper(Graduate students)

Topic: During the campaign, Republican candidate for president Donald J. Trump advocated playing “hardball” with U.S. allies, strongly implying that allies needed to pay their fair share of the mutual defense burden or risk a scaling back of U.S. commitments. In your new role on President Trump’s National Security Council staff, you have been tasked with assessing the potential consequences of the United States ending its alliances with Japan and South Korea in the event that they balk at paying more for defense. The United States would no longer guarantee the security of these two nations, and U.S. military forces would be withdrawn from their territories. What would the benefits of such a policy be? What are the possible costs? Overall, would such a policy be beneficial for the interests of the United States? Begin your essay with a brief executive summary that clearly states the conclusions of your analysis.
